Planning a Mojito Party
Here are some helpful tips for serving mojitos at your next party or gathering. Mojito Party

There is nothing worse than running out of drinks at a party.  To keep the mojitos flowing, you will need to stock the bar ahead of time with everything you need to prepare enough mojitos for your guests.  Then stock the bar with everything you need to prepare more mojitos for your guests.  You will be surprised at how quickly these items disappear during a party.  Read the list below for some helpful guidelines.

Glasses: Choose a mojito glass that is suitable for the occasion.  We suggest the
frosted mojito glass  for indoor parties and dinners.  If you are bringing the party outdoors, try one of our acrylic glasses .  If you decide to use disposable cups, we highly recommend using clear cups rather than colored cups that are more appropriately placed next to the beer keg.  Make sure you have at least one glass for each guest.  Have some extra on hand just in case the party is so good people lose their glasses.

Straws: Plan on using one straw for every mojito served.   Guests will not reuse their straws and will instead throw them away after that last sip of mojito.  Straws are great for so many things, so keep extras around at all times.  Mojito glasses are tall so regular straws do not always do the trick.

Napkins: Again, not a reusable item in most cases.   At a minimum, you will need one napkin per mojito served.   As the party goes on, the number of napkins needed will increase.   More party = more mojitos = more spills  = more napkins.  Use napkins styled to match the theme of your event.

Equipment: Have a jigger handy for measuring rum and a cocktail shaker for shaking the mojito.  Most importantly, you will need a muddler .  If guests will be preparing their own mojitos, invest in a few muddlers (you may also consider giving each guest their own muddler when they arrive at the party).  These items are useful for making many types of drinks, but why bother when you've already chosen to drink a mojito?  Check out our wide selection of mojito kits and mojito sets for all the tools you need to make a mojito.

Limes and other garnishes: Quarter limes before the event.   Do not waste precious partying time cutting up fruit and making people wait for their mojitos.   Important: do not underestimate the number of limes you need.   People love mojitos.  You can always use the limes for something else if extras remain.   Same goes for mint.  You should remove the mint leaves from the stems before the party so the leaves are ready for immediate use.

Mixers: Make sure to have lots of club soda and other mixers behind your bar.  For each 15 mojitos, you will use about one 1-liter bottle of club soda.  It won't hurt to have a few extra bottles left over - club soda is extremely versatile and you will almost always forget to buy it otherwise.  You should also have plenty of
guarapo
available - you do not want to be left with guests doing makeshift tequila shots using rum and lime.  Each can of guarapo makes about three or four mojitos.  If making flavored mojitos, use half the amount of guarapo and replace the other half with the nectar of your choice.

Ice: Buy about one pound of ice per guest.

Mojito GlassesGenerally speaking, you should plan to serve one drink per hour per guest.  Depending on the crowd, perhaps two drinks per guest for the first hour and one drink per hour thereafter.

As a general guide, for every 15 mojitos you plan to serve, you should have:

1 750 mL bottle rum
12 limes
45 mint leaves (about one package from a grocery store)
1 liter bottle club soda
5 pounds ice
4 to 5 cans
guarapo

Making Pitchers of Mojitos

You may want to make a mojito pitcher (or two or three) before the party starts.  This is especially helpful during the beginning of the party when you will be greeting your guests and trying to serve multiple drinks at the same time.   With pre-made pitchers on hand, you will have time to mingle and will not be stuck behind the bar keeping everyone waiting for their drinks.   Once the party gets going, you can start bartending.   Even if you are hiring a bartender for the event, you may still want to make a pitcher of mojitos some other time, so read on…

To make a 60 oz pitcher of mojitos: Muddle 4 limes, 15 drops of bitters, and about 20 mint leaves (depending on size) in the bottom of the pitcher.  Fill the pitcher with ice.  Add 10-12 ounces of rum (about 1 ½ cups) and 2 cans guarapo.  Top with 6-8 ounces of club soda.  Stir vigorously to incorporate lime and mint.
